On the 7th of August West Wyalong High School under 15's boys and girls basketball teams competed to become Western region champions. It was a tough slog for our boys who had depleted numbers due to illness and injury. With a youthful team the boys showed a lot of heart up against some bigger and older competition but they did not take a backward step. The boys unfortunately lost all three games against Lithgow High, Dubbo South and Bathurst High. The team consisted of Jai Bischoff, Dylan Davies, Kieran Duncan, Phoenix Grintell, Josh Cameron, Jack Sutton, Charlie Schneeberger, Liam Duncan and Zac Hanrahan.
On the flipside our girls were highly competitive and won all three games and did so in style. The first two games were never really in doubt with strong performances on both the defensive and offensive ends of the court. In the final game the girls gritted their teeth on defense and came back from a scoreless first quarter to take over the game and win convincingly in the end. The team consisted of Anna Rogers, Georgia Miller, Bridie White, Olivia Hopper, Loudy Bishop, Emma Miller, Brianna Hanrahan, Charlee Jones and Makayla Cooper. We wish the girls all the best in the next step of the competition.
Special mention to the student referee's and scorers on the day, without your help these days would be difficult to run. Thanks to Mr Grintell and Mr Heydon as well for their organisation and coaching expertise.
