Year 12 Physics Depth Study

Stduents that attended the excursion

On Wednesday the 18th of September, four year 12 students travelled to Parkes to visit the CSIRO Radio Telescope as part of their year 12 physics depth study. The visit consisted of a three dimensional cinematic experience where students watched several documentaries on the function of the telescope and the history of our exploration of space; a private tour of the observatory tower and the satellite dish, a lecture given by CSIRO astronomer Dr Jane Kaczmarek and a short workshop and question and answer session with Dr Kaczmarek on her work at the Parkes Observatory.

The students were provided with some great insights into the astronomy field of scientific research, the engineering behind building and maintaining the telescope and some useful tips regarding university study from an expert in the field.

A massive thank you goes to Dr Kaczmarek for taking time out of her busy schedule to provide us with this opportunity and to Mrs Clarke for organising the excursion.
