Molly Cattle competed at the Adelaide Royal Show at the National Championships of the Junior Judging of Angora Goats on the 6th and 7th of September.
Molly qualified for the National Championships after being successful at the National Angora Show Trophy Competition in Goulburn and then the Royal Easter Show in Sydney. Molly has been parading Angora Goats since Year 5 and is currently in Year 9 at West Wyalong High School. She has shown dedication and commitment to the Show Team throughout the years and her hard work has been rewarded with these wonderful results.
At each of the qualifying levels, and then again at the National Championships, Molly has to judge an Angora Goat on a number of qualities. These qualities are the animal's fleece, it's carcass value and the body confirmation. The fleece qualities include what type of manufacturing it will go to, either worsted or woollen. Worsted is socks or fine suits and woollen is carpets or yarn. The body confirmation includes looking at the size of the animal and it's breeding qualities.
The junior judges have to judge the animals on these qualities and then justify these decisions.
At the National Championships Molly finished fourth. This is an amazing achievement and the West Wyalong High School community would like to commend Molly and her supporters for this wonderful achievement.
While in Adelaide, Molly also competed in the Paraders event. Molly had no prior knowledge of the animal that she had to parade in front of the judges. The judges then ask questions to test your knowledge and determine how well you can handle an animal.
Again, Molly excelled and finished first out of thirty two competitors.
Congratulations Molly!
