On Thursday 17th August, Mr Watson's Year 11 Industrial Technology class Visited the Big River Plywood Factory in Wagga Wagga. This was part of the industry study for this subject. During the tour we saw each of the processes that contribute to the making of a humble sheet of plywood. A process that begins when a whole log is shaved to a millimetre thick in a giant pencil sharpener. Then continues through various stages of grading, drying, gluing and pressing. Until the final product which is stacked and distributed for sale. Ultimately having a huge range of potential uses from form work on multi story construction sites to book cases for school libraries.
During the tour we saw examples of how environmental and Work Health and Safety laws were implemented in a large scale factory that employs over a 100 people and operates for three shifts a day.
