Each Wednesday at West Wyalong High School, students are involved in a varying program during period two.
In week one of the timetable rotation, the students have year meetings and are involved in well -being activities. These activities are designed to assist students in a variety of ways. The year advisors co-ordinate the sessions and quite often use guest speakers to maximise the importance of each topic.
The topics for various year groups have included healthy lifestyle, Growth Mind Set, Mental Health, Healthy Relationships, Computer technology, Goal setting, Cyberbullying, Dangers of sexting, muscle relaxation and yoga, fitness, and maintaining healthy eating.
In week two of the timetable rotation, students are involved in Leadership or Special Interest Groups. The Leadership groups are run by the Year Advisors, while other staff members assist or run a Special Interest Group.
The Leadership group users a range of icebreaker activities to develop the students' leadership skills. The leadership teams are also working on a leadership project.
Year 12- Preparation for Year Book and of end of year Formal and Assembly
Year 11- Organising a Colour Run and preparation for School Captain
Year 10 – Peer Support with Year 7
Year 9 – Mental Health Forum – Preparation for Dramatic Minds Festival
Year 8 – Organising fundraisers and creating workshops for peers
Students who are not involved in leadership get the opportunity to participate in a special interest group. The inspiration behind the special interest group is to develop students' well-being by giving them an interest that they can develop during this time and outside of school.
These activities include activities such as healthy cooking on a budget, Yoga and Pilates, Fitness, Learning a musical instrument, Arm knitting, Making Leather Belts, Power Walking, Volunteering, Art, Assessment Support, Book Club, Car maintenance, Getting your Learners License, Board Games, Card Games, Basketball skills and Rugby League Skills.
A number of photos of some of the activities are available in the photo gallery.
