On Monday the 15th of May, Hayden Cooper, Will Crossman, Rowan Duncan and Rebecca Cumming, travelled to Cootamundra High School for the Year 8 Debating competition.
The team was given one hour to address the topic "We should ban schools from setting any educational tasks outside of school hours." West Wyalong High School was the affirmative team.
Rowan was the first speaker and got us off to a good start. Rebecca was the second speaker following on from the opposition rebuttals and Hayden was the third speaker and was able to extend on our points and summarise the arguments.
Our team line "The ban is the plan" was well received. We made some solid points, including speaking about Finland and their banning of homework which lead to an improvement in student results and wellbeing. The Cootamundra High team were full of polished speakers and were rewarded with the win.
The West Wyalong High School team were grateful for the experience provided by Mr Meredith and Miss McInnes.
