On Wednesday the 7th of June, the senior girls League Tag team travelled to Leeton to participate in the Western Region League Tag knockout. Due to bad weather the day had been postponed and as a result we were one of only three teams in our region to attend.
The team consisted of Abbie Ridley, Paris Anderson-Lynch, Paige Amarant, Jessica Butcher, Laura Harland, Bella Reid, Kayleigh Sandow, Chelsea Wood, Olivia Nicholson, Kady Amarant, Chelsea Collins, Bree Franklin, Marney Jameison, Makayla Cooper and Summer Rees.
Our first game was against St Francis High School. Despite a solid effort in defence we trailed at the end of the first half 4 to 6. St Francis came out firing in the second half and we were unable to match their speed and aggression in attack. The final score was 4 to 16. Try scorer: Kady Amarant.
In our second game we came up against Wade High School. We were much more organised in attack and were able spread to ball to our wings well. Both Kady Amarant and Paige Amarant were able to create an overlap for themselves and get through to score a try in the first half. Both conversions were made, one by Olivia Nicholson and one by Bree Franklin. We left our wings short late in the first half and allowed Wade High School to score twice in the corner. We held the lead 12-8 at half time.
Despite attacking their try line for the majority of the second half we were unable to get across again. Chelsea Wood managed to get the ball over the line in the second half but a late tag made and an unlucky call meant we had to take the ball back out to the 10 for a penalty and no score. We let Wade High School cross the line again late in the last half, which tied up the scores at 12 all.
All the girls played well and demonstrated good sportsmanship towards the other teams on the day.
