On Monday 20th of March, the Opens Boys basketball competed in the second round of the CHS tournament at Bathurst. The team consisted of Will McMartin, Chaz Bishop, Alex Schneeberger, Jack Parkes, Lachlan Miller, Darcy White, Reece Turner, Rowan Duncan, Luke Cameron and Zac Hanrahan.
The team began its first game against Canobolas High School. After a slow start, the team began to lock in defensively which led to some easy baskets at the other end. With time winding down in the final quarter West Wyalong High gained a lead of three points with two seconds remaining on the clock. Canobolas called a time out and ran a play which resulted in a long range three point shot being made thus resulting in a draw.
Lithgow high were the next opponent, who began the game with a flurry of three point shots and fast break lay ups. West Wyalong High weathered the storm by playing strong on the defensive end, again resulting in easy fast break lay ups. West Wyalong held a comfortable lead throughout the game, resulting in a win.
The final game saw West Wyalong playing Dubbo. West Wyalong ran away with a comfortable victory against a relatively inexperienced Dubbo team. This win allowed West Wyalong High School to tie with Canobolas for Western Region champions.
The team will now travel to Wagga Wagga to face Kooringal High School in the round of 32.
