West Wyalong High School are very grateful to continue the strong link with both West Wyalong Rotary and Nepean Rotary to deliver the annual Rotary work experience week for students.
Twelve year 10 students from West Wyalong High School travelled to Penrith recently to spend the week doing work experience and experiencing "city life".
Students are asked where they would like to do work experience and Ken Buttram of Nepean Rotary and his helpers, match these as closely as possible. This year, students were able to experience financial services, neighbourhood centre, events manager, civil engineering, hair and beauty academy, youth services, physiotherapy, fitness instructor, building and an art gallery.
The students travelled to Penrith on Saturday 28th October and returned home the following Saturday. They spent Sunday in Manly and were able to attend bowling, laser tag, ice skating and late night shopping on different nights.
The students were extremely grateful to both Nepean and West Wyalong Rotary who cover all costs of this week long adventure.
The students made a presentation to West Wyalong Rotary members on their return, detailing their experiences at work and with their host families. "It was an amazing experience which we will definitely recommend to other kids", stated Kaitlin Widdows. A sentiment reiterated by all of the students.
West Wyalong High School Principal and Rotary President Kyle Sturgess both expressed their gratitude to teacher Annmarie Forster for her role in the organisation of this event. "Something like this doesn't just happen and we are extremely thankful for the work behind the scenes to ensure that the kids have a great time."
While the focus is on work experience, the students certainly learn life skills and develop new friendships along the way.
