At the end of last term we were very fortunate to have renowned Australian children's author John Heffernan visit us.
John spoke to our Year 7 and Year 8 students for over an hour telling them about his experiences, his inspirations for his stories and his writing process. Students were enthralled as Mr Heffernan told them about his experiences in Afghanistan and other parts of the world. He gave us an insight into the plot development of his novel "Spud" and he inspired our students to write stories. He told us about his research for his new book "Naveed" and the impact it had on his life.
Our students were, as always, very well behaved, and several students asked insightful questions during the talk and stayed behind to speak to John after his presentation. Mr Heffernan spoke about how much he enjoys coming to the Bland Shire because of the nature and manners of our students.
We are extremely grateful to the Bland Shire Council, and Cathy Lange in particular, for funding and organising this very important cultural experience for our students. We highly value our close working relationship with the Bland Shire Council.
